The plate fits the opening. What holds it up?

Why nominal width is a useful rejection check and an incomplete approval check.

Two familiar widths are only the first filter

Our launch catalog includes 8¼ × 11¾-inch and 9¼ × 11¾-inch plate identities. JessEm 02121 and Rockler 52429 belong to the smaller width; JessEm 02120, Kreg PRS5000 and Rockler 55803 use the wider footprint. Selecting the wrong width is enough to reject an ordinary drop-in replacement.

The reverse is not true. Two plates can share a nominal width and length while the support, corners, leveling method or mounting holes differ. Our selector uses dimensions to identify an obvious mismatch, then requires separate evidence before it calls the table relationship supported.

Find the support before shopping

Look underneath the table after disconnecting the router from power. A ledge around the opening and individual support brackets are different constructions. Document what you actually have, including missing, worn or modified parts. Do not assume used equipment still has the hardware shown in its original sales photograph.

Kreg’s manual describes a correctly sized rabbeted opening or a straight-sided opening equipped with its insert plate levelers. INCRA’s instructions for its own Mast-R-Lift II identify an adapter for Kreg or JessEm tables without a rabbeted ledge. These examples explain why the support method is part of the compatibility question.

Measure to ask a better question

Record width, length, depth and the corner shape of the existing recess. Distinguish the top recess from a smaller opening below it. Photograph support hardware, fastening locations and obstructions under the table. Record the table’s model number and whether the top has been modified.

Those details help a manufacturer assess the combination. They do not authorize you to remove material, improvise supports or treat a close measurement as an installation instruction. A custom or homemade table remains unknown in this selector because we cannot inspect its construction.

A modification is a separate project

Rockler publishes a dedicated document for using Pro Lift 52429 in PROMAXRT 25574. The existence of that bulletin changes the nature of the purchase: it is a planned modification, not a universal small-plate swap. Read the complete document and assess the work before buying the lift.

If you want a replacement that can be installed with the least uncertainty, favor a fully documented exact combination with the needed support pieces already identified. That is an editorial decision rule, not a ranking of machining quality. When the evidence stops at plate dimensions, stop at an unknown result.
